Corporate Research Centers
Research and development activities are conducted at our corporate research centers. With nine locations in seven countries –?China, India, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States?– we bring together a highly skilled international team of scientists and engineers.?
To generate new ideas and advance our existing technologies, research and development is centered around eight key research areas.?
Devise cutting-edge AC and DC interruption technologies for the entire voltage range
Investigate novel materials for future products as well as identify/deploy cutting-edge manufacturing processes
Devise novel products and systems using insights into electromagnetics, dielectrics, heat transfer, acoustics and electrochemistry
Realize novel power electronics solutions and power semiconductors for diverse applications
Create innovative measurement solutions for electrical and industrial systems; secure competence in electronics for smart and reliable devices
Analyze, design and track manufacturing advances, use, and maintenance of diverse mechanical systems (robotics to switchgear)
Create sustainable, secure and user-friendly software-based automation solutions, using efficient software engineering methods and architectures, as well as communication technologies
Innovate automation, operation, protection and maintenance solutions for industrial and electrical systems including their associated components
Committed to innovation
As part of our commitment to technological prowess and innovation, we collaborate with about 70 universities around the world. In line with this commitment, and also to advance the academic fields that are of interest to ABB, we recently announced the?ABB Research Award in Honor of Hubertus von Gruenberg, the former chairman of the board of directors at ABB.
